Our 3-Part Illness

Our 3-Part Illness

Our 3-Part Illness

When I put down the bottle, I made a deliberate choice to address Part 1 (the physical) of my 3-part illness . Then, you and others started teaching me how to make deliberate choices on the mental and spiritual part (Parts 2 & 3) of my illness.

“In this statement he [Dr. Silkworth] confirms what we who have suffered alcoholic torture must believe—that the body of the alcoholic is quite as abnormal as his mind.” – The Doctor’s Opinion

Thank God there are so many places in our book that provide me clear cut direction on how to address Parts 2 & 3 (these abnormalities). The one that jumped off the pages for me this morning were in Step 11 (BB Pg 87, “Into Action”)…

“As we go through the day…

1.) we pause, when agitated or doubtful,
2.) and ask ????????  for the right thought or action.
3.) We constantly remind ourselves we are no longer running the show, humbly saying to ourselves many times each day “Thy will be done.”
4.) We are then in much less danger of excitement, fear, anger, worry, self-pity, or foolish decisions.
5.) We become much more efficient.
6.) We do not tire so easily, for we are not burning up energy foolishly as we did when we were trying to arrange life to suit ourselves.”

I was talking to another alcoholic last night who was sharing what’s going on in their life and they said to me, “I hate my job.” I said to them, “How free do you wanna be?” I know when I was in a place where I hated my job, I made a deliberate choice to be free and left that job and started my own business (23 years ago) – even though there was a fair amount of fear involved in that decision.

Because I…

  • Asked God ????????  for the right thought or action
  • Inherently knew I needed direction (instead of trying to figure it out myself)
  • Was ready for God’s will to be done…

…I had less fear and worry. ????  #mindblown  I made a deliberate choice to protect my mental, spiritual, and emotional state.????

This new power [HP] that flowed into me in Step 3 is the most beautiful gift I’ve ever been given. So, I believe I will use it today to be of maximum service to God and God’s kids.????????

What deliberate choice are you going to make today?
